Volunteers, supporters, and U.S. VETS Residents attend a production of Clybourne Park at Woolly Mammoth Theater

U.S. VETS thanks Bruce and Glen Finland for sponsoring a group of 13 veterans and staff to attend a performance of Clybourne Park.  Woolly Mammoth Theater has partnered with our program and supporters to actively engage veterans we house in conversation around this exciting work.  August 3rd, U.S. VETS Resident James Sykes will spoke following the show about his reactions and experiences as part of the Community Catalyst program being offered by Woolly Mammoth.  We encourage our supporters to see this excellent play which sparks meaningful thought on issues of housing, equal opportunity, race, gentrification, and the sacrifices and challenges of our veterans.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE SHOW

Clybourne Park
Written by Bruce Norris
Directed by Howard Shalwitz

July 21 – August 14, 2011 at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company

A white community in 1950’s Chicago splinters over the black family about to move in. Fast-forward to our present day, and the same house represents very different demographics as we climb through the looking-glass of Lorraine Hansberry’s classic A Raisin in the Sun. These hilarious and horrifying neighbors pitch a battle over territory and legacy that reveals how far our ideas about race and gentrification have evolved—or have they?
