U.S.VETS- Los Angeles Hosts First Ever Employment Forum
U.S. VETS – Los Angeles hosted its first ever Employer Forum on Oct. 26, with representatives from 20 companies including Target, U-haul, Securitas USA, Vons/Pavilions, KMPC Radio and Marvin Engineering to name a few. The forum was moderated by Chase Wickersham, Senior Vice President of U.S. VETS.
“The purpose of the forum was to get feedback from people who make the hiring decisions about what we can do to better prepare our veterans for the job market,” said Ivan Mason, Site Director of U.S. VETS – Los Angeles. “I’m pleased that the employers all felt this was a worthwhile event and they shared so much valuable information.”
The forum offered employers the chance to meet with several veterans looking for work and give them feedback on their resumes and interviewing skills. Employers stressed the importance of having the right skills for the job and making sure that resumes reflect those skills when applying for work.
“Hopefully this will be just the first Employer Forum,” said Mason. “The employers gave us good input, but more importantly it gave them a chance to see the quality of our veteran job seekers and the support that U.S. VETS workforce programs offer,” he said.
