U.S.VETS-Phoenix Expands to New Facility on Grand Ave.

In Maricopa County 2,600 to 3,600 veterans are homeless. The Arizona Department of Veteran Services developed a statewide plan to prevent and ultimately end homelessness among military veterans.

The federal plan set forth strategic actions in five key areas:

  1. Providing Affordable Housing
  2. Providing permanent supportive housing
  3. Increasing meaningful and sustainable employment
  4. Reducing Financial Vulnerability
  5. Transforming homeless services to crisis response systems focus on prevention and rapid re-housing

U.S. VETS-Phoenix came to the conclusion that it was necessary to open an additional facility that helps and assist veterans with affordable housing and services.

Shortly thereafter, the U.S. VETS-Phoenix/Grand Ave location was opened for veterans who desire long-term housing.This 134-room facility is in a prime location near the V.A. hospital and provides recreational equipment, a pool/spa, and other great amenities.

U.S. VETS – Phoenix/Grand Ave has incorporated a clinical services program to better prepare veterans for independent living.The Clinical Supervisor works with case managers to enroll clients in clinical services. The organization will partner with mental health providers to increase services in the areas of general counseling, anger management and grief counseling. Enhanced substance abuse treatment services will also be provided.

Recreational Therapy

The primary purposes of Recreational Therapy at U.S. VETS-Phoenix/Grand Ave are to rehabilitate in order to improve functioning and independence as well as reduce or eliminate the effects of illness or disability. Therapeutic recreation uses education and recreation services to help veterans use their leisure in ways that enhance their health, functional abilities, independence and quality of life.

Activities include but not limited to:

  • Aquatic Therapy
  • Volleyball
  • Bocce Ball
  • Art Therapy
  • Pool
  • Barbeques
