Unemployment is a serious challenge for American veterans, particularly those transitioning from or at-risk of becoming homeless. Currently, the unemployment rate for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans is nearly twice the rate of the civilian population. This lack of gainful employment is often a key factor in servicemembers decisions to serve multiple deployments. Our goal at U.S.VETS is to help these unemployed veterans find meaningful work that allows them to become self-sufficient and contributing members of civilian society.
U.S. VETS workforce programs are open to all veterans in need of employment assistance.
With the guidance of a Career Counselor, veterans develop employment goals and improve their job seeking skills.
Career Counselors help assess veterans’ skill sets, work experience, education, and interests. They also assist veterans in identifying their transferable skills and how to translate those skills to “civilian” life.
Job Developers then help veterans create a professional resume and assist them to reach their ultimate goal…job placement.
U.S.VETS state of the art Career Centers are equipped with computers with internet access, email, and software to create resumes as well as learn new job skills. Veterans enrolled in the workforce program receive voice mail and email accounts. Other services include fax machines, telephones and a copy center.
U.S. VETS helps employers in the community fill their open positions and grow their businesses.
