U.S. VETS-Long Beach is the largest of twelve U.S. VETS sites and nationally is the largest provider of transitional housing and supportive services for veterans in the United States. The Long Beach site provides: transitional and long-term housing, case management, employment assistance, counseling for mental and health issues and substance abuse treatment. The programs offered by U.S. VETS are coordinated with HUD, the Long Beach VA Medical Center, California Employment Development Department, local government and local non-profit agencies. Programs and Services offered at U.S. VETS - Long Beach: · Veterans Village Recovery Center – 30-bed intensive substance abuse treatment program operated by the Long Beach VA Medical Center. · Veterans in Progress Program (VIP) – 72-bed residential 90-day work re-entry program. · ADVANCE Women’s Program – 35-bed residential program for female veterans offering a comprehensive program for unemployed homeless women, and specialized sexual trauma treatment. · Recently Separated Veterans (RSV) Program – 12-bed program provides comprehensive services to recently separated Afghanistan and Iraq veterans to assist them in transitioning from military to civilian life. · 315 transitional and permanent housing beds for homeless veterans. · 66 units offering permanent housing with rental assistance for disabled veterans. · Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) – operated by the Long Beach VA Medical Center Each year: · More than a 1,000 homeless veterans are provided services. · 335 veterans receive substance abuse treatment. · 100 disabled veterans are in permanent rental assistance housing, ending years of homelessness for many of them. · 150 veterans find full time employment through the on-site Career Center. · Nearly 100 women are provided housing, employment assistance and sexual trauma counseling in the ADVANCE Women’s program. * U.S. VETS serves as the lead coordinating agency at the Village at Cabrillo site. The Villages at Cabrillo is the largest, most comprehensive residential social service complex, serving both veteran and non-veteran homeless individuals and families in need of transitional housing and services in the Nation. Efforts are coordinated through 9 non-profit agencies.
