U.S.VETS, the nation’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to helping homeless veterans, is pleased to announce the appointment of Jim Hansen as Executive Director of their largest facility, U.S.VETS – Long Beach.
Prior to joining U.S.VETS, Mr. Hansen completed a 34-year career in the public sector serving as an assistant city manager, community development director and economic development director for cities in Washington, Nevada and Southern California. In 2005, he started a consulting practice and his clients included the Economic Development Bureau and Redevelopment Agency in Long Beach. Most recently he held the position of business advisor with Long Beach City College in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program.
Mr. Hansen served in the Army as a Sergeant with Charlie Company, 2/501st Infantry, 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam in 1968-1969. Prior to his appointment as Executive Director, he was a member of the U.S.VETS Advisory Council in Long Beach.
U.S.VETS – Long Beach is located at the Villages at Cabrillo, a 26-acre former naval base, and is the largest transitional housing facility for homeless and at-risk veterans in the nation with over 550 beds. In addition to providing housing, U.S.VETS offers job training and placement, substance abuse treatment, a program for female veterans and specialized services for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.
