DSC_6277U.S.VETS-Prescott unveiled their new Veteran Career Center on Friday, June 14 in Prescott.

The center, at 917 E. Gurley Street, offers access to computers, fax machines, copiers, and telephones as well as a clothing room, community resource room, and administrative offices, AmeriCorps VISTA Member and U.S.VETS-Prescott Veteran Activities Coordinator Sarah Kolakowski said.

“When you hire a veteran, you honor a veteran,” U.S.VETS Workforce Coordinator Robby Alley said during the opening ceremony.

Alley has worked with veterans throughout Northern Arizona to help them overcome barriers, obtain employment and make sure the match with employers is sustainable.

The Veteran Career Center is open to all veterans seeking employment and is specifically for those enrolled in the Workforce Development Program, which focuses on job preparation, placement and retention. Those in the program participate in weekly workshops that focus on resume building, job-search techniques, life skills, financial management, computer training, and one-on-one services from the workforce coordinator.

Starting July 1, the Veteran Career Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. In the meantime, walk-ins seeking employment services are welcome and community members are encouraged to drop in and check out the multipurpose facility…

The Veteran Career Center seeks volunteers to help run the front desk and mentor veterans. To hire a veteran, volunteer in the Veteran Career Center or get information for a displaced veteran looking for work, contact Robby Alley at 928-200-5631 or ralley@usvetsinc.org.

U.S.VETS also could use donations of new and gently used interview clothing for both male and female veterans. Donations can be dropped off at the VA in Building 151’s lower C unit.

U.S.VETS would like to thank their advisory council, staff and residents, as well as the Prescott Chamber of Commerce and the entire community for their continued support.
