U.S.VETS – Barber’s Point has been preparing for this year’s Gift of Aloha project since mid-November with the goal of gaining a partnership with local mall, Ka Makana Ali‘i. We were able to set-up an area at the center court of the mall to promote the project and ask donors to grant the wishes of each veteran from programs including VIP, Permanent Housing, Workforce Development, and Emergency Housing, totaling almost 200 clients. With the project being outdoors in public, it not only brought great awareness for our organization, but it also helped us to get over 75% of clients’ wish lists sponsored. Bikes, TVs, clothes, and other various gifts overfilled our offices up until Christmas morning. In addition, we received monetary donations to fulfill the wish lists of clients that were not granted by December 17th.
On Christmas morning, U.S.VETS staff members gathered under the tent to hand gifts to each program veteran, who were thrilled to receive gifts. Christmas morning was full of happy and grateful hearts. We want to extend our appreciation to all donors who pledged to sponsor our clients during this special time of the season. We wish everyone a merry Christmas and happy 2017!
