Every year on Veterans Day, U.S.VETS – Barber’s Point staff cordially invites all the veterans in the Veterans-In-Progress (VIP) program to a morning brunch. This annual brunch gives U.S.VETS – Barber’s Point staff an opportunity to give thanks to the veterans in honor of their service to our country. The ceremony opened with a welcoming speech from Executive Director Dr. Kim Cook, followed by a community volunteer, Leilani Walker, who sang her acappella version of the national anthem. She received a full standing ovation for her beautiful, and touching rendition. During brunch, four VIP clients shared the histories of their branches of service, highlighting what it means to them to be a veteran. To conclude the ceremony, Chief Operating Officer Darryl Vincent thanked veterans for their time in service. U.S.VETS – Barber’s Point staff extends its deepest appreciation for all the veterans of this great nation who have selflessly served our country! The staff is extremely honored to serve in this capacity and look forward to continue serving those who served.
Later in the day, The Lions Club hosted a Veterans Day dinner in honor of the veterans of U.S.VETS. They truly celebrated each of the veterans with their warm welcome and hospitality. Each veteran was presented with a patriotic lei and had a chance to share their stories. U.S.VETS – Barber’s Point staff would like to especially thank Aunty Pauline Martinez and Ana Despault, who together made over 200 patriotic leis from red, white and blue yarn.
