Zachary served in the Marines Corps from 1984 until 1987, but found it hard to work after he left.
He entered the U.S.VETS Fathers Program in 2014 and by the next year, he had enrolled in school to become a smog check technician. He graduated in March and within three months had passed both state certification exams and received a job offer.
This spring, Zachary was approved for a housing voucher through the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles. When he received news of his voucher approval, Zachary said, “This is the best news I could have possibly hoped for!”
Zachary was featured at the U.S VETS – Los Angeles graduation this September as the alumni speaker, and shared about his transition from homelessness to permanent housing with the help from U.S.VETS staff, case management, and the many resources and supportive services that we offer.
He now has a great two-bedroom apartment with enough space for him to be able to use for visitations with his kids, who he’s now reconnecting with. “I’m so excited to be able to have them spend some weekends with me,” he said.
