U.S. VETS – Los Angeles celebrated the completion and opening of Westside Residences II with the developer, Cloudbreak Communities on Friday, Dec. 16th. The Ribbon Cutting ceremony was attended by leaders of U.S. VETS including CEO/President Stephen Peck and Site Director, Ivan Mason. Founding board members Col. Joseph Smith and David Farrar were there along with the Honorable Harry Pregerson, U. S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit who was instrumental in the creation of U.S.VETS.
Community partners played a huge role in the development of the new 196-bed permanent housing building for low-income veterans. State Senator Roderick Wright and Inglewood Mayor James Butts addressed the crowd of supporters and dignitaries along with representatives from the Department of Veteran Affairs, Department of Housing and Urban Development, U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness and the Los Angeles Housing Authority.
Of special significance was the presentation of Inglewood City Council Members Ralph Franklin, Judy Dunlap, Eloy Morales and Mike Stevens to unveil street signs for “Dwight Radcliff Way” in honor of former U.S. VETS CEO/President Dwight Radcliff. The Radcliff family was in attendance to celebrate the street signs and the realization of Radcliff’s dream to see the first location of U.S. VETS expanded.
“It’s an exciting time for U.S. VETS – Los Angeles,” said Ivan Mason, “and this beautiful, new housing demonstrates our continued commitment to serving the needs of our veteran community.”
