General Stan Brown was honored by the Riverside Chamber of Commerce for a number of accomplishments including his 33 years of service in the U.S. Air Force and his key role in the establishment of the Riverside National Cemetery at March Air Force base. Along with being the chair of the advisory board for U.S.VETS- Inland Empire, General Brown also works with the March Joint Powers Authority and serves on the Riverside Planning Commission.
In 1950, Ret. Brig. General Stan Brown enlisted in the newly formed Air Force and quickly rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. His many military decorations and awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Bronze Star, the Air Force Commendation, and the Vietnam Service Medal. While at March Air Force Base, Ret. Brig. General Brown successfully lobbied for the establishment of a VA National Cemetery on surplus March Field land. His service on the VA’s National Cemetery Advisory Committee and the Riverside National Cemetery’s Memorials and Monuments Committee was instrumental in turning Riverside National Cemetery into a nationally recognized and emulated national shrine.
