On October 28th, Arizona Public Service (APS) in coordination with Arizona Energy Management, Sears, Cree, Electrolux, and the City of Phoenix, sponsored an event for the veterans located at Grand Veterans Village. APS provided a breakfast and lunch for the residents, and had informational booths set up with prizes and raffles to better understand energy conservation.
In addition, 135 new windows were donated from Sears to replace the old single pane windows. All 135 units at Grand Veterans Village had their refrigerators replaced with larger, more energy efficient models, and all the light bulbs were replaced with energy efficient LED bulbs. The TV room got a brand new 65” flat screen television, and the laundry room received brand new washer and dryer that are high efficiency. In all it is expected that the upgrades will save $40,000.00 a year in energy costs.
Special thanks to APS CEO Don Brandt, Tom Hines, Ken Pancost, Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, Advisory Board Chairman Judge Michael Hawkins, and the hundreds of volunteers that made this event a phenomenal success.
