On February 12-14, the annual Stand Down took place at the Coliseum located in Phoenix, Arizona. Over 1800 veterans attended the event, which provided services and support ranging from legal assistance, housing, clothing, food, and veterinarian care, as well as massage, haircuts, and acupuncture.
This year U.S.VETS was responsible for the housing component of the Stand Down, and was able to serve over 350 veterans. In a big change from last year’s Stand Down, many of the veterans that needed help with housing were not homeless, marking a significant reduction in the homeless population. Preliminary results from the Point in Time count conducted after the Stand Down reported only 18 Veterans were encountered on the streets of Phoenix.
