U.S.VETS-Washington D.C. was honored by The Safeway Foundation for its work with homeless veterans in the DC area. A breakfast banquet celebrating the work of more than 50 area non-profits was attended by Case Manager Andria Francis who accepted the $2,500 on behalf of U.S.VETS-DC. The donation by Safeway marked its first contribution to U.S.VETS in the DC area. Funds will help support the Permanent Supportive Housing program serving up to 40 veterans.
U.S.VETS-Washington D.C. also received a $10,000 grant award from The Herb Block Foundation under the foundation’s Pathways out of Poverty initiative. Funds will support efforts to lift formerly homeless veterans out of poverty thru housing supports, eligible VA benefits, and employment placement supports. This is the first ever award from the Herb Block Foundation, endowed by the late Herb Block, the pulitzer prize-winning political cartoonist for The Washington Post for 55 years until his death in 2001. Mr. Block served in the army during WWII.
