Executive Director of the Year: Gladys Peraro

Gladys PeraroGladys L. Peraro, Executive Director for U.S.VETS – Waianae, has been named Executive Director of the Year.

Gladys was chosen for this honor for her tireless work at her site and exceptional attention to detail. In addition to overseeing the 300-bed family program at U.S.VETS – Waianae, Gladys stepped up to the plate to lead another huge endeavor that needed her expertise. In September 2013, the State of Hawaii solicited U.S.VETS to operate another non-veteran specific program that housed families and individuals. The facility was only 6 years old with a 57% occupancy rate – only 5% of whom were veterans. U.S.VETS saw this an opportunity to provide more housing opportunities for veterans, since the occupancy rate for the facility was so low. Gladys and her team took charge of the new facility.

In a 6 month period, under Gladys’ leadership, the site was at 100% capacity with a veteran occupancy of 40% for the total facility.

Without question, Gladys has shown exemplary leadership over the past year. She is a true “unsung hero” who never seeks recognition, and it is an honor to recognize her dedication and hard work.

Congratulations Gladys, and thank you for all that you do for U.S.VETS!
