U.S.VETS – Waianae (Pai’olu Kaiaulu) offers heartfelt thanks and leis of aloha to renowned artist, Hilton Alves, for gifting Pai’olu Kaiaulu with a wave mural as part of his 101 Perfect Waves – International Mural Project. Our mural is the 23rd of 101 planned for the project..
Hilton donated his time and efforts at U.S.VETS – Waianae on Sunday, July 30, 2017, in order to inspire children to be more involved with art- he was so committed to the project that he sold some of his own paintings via online auction and social media to raise the funds to purchase quality art supplies consisting of easels, paint sets, palettes, canvases, and tote bags, for each of the keiki (children) residing at Pai’olu Kaiaulu, 64 children total.
Hilton’s vision via the “Surf Art Kids Project” is to “expose children and youth to environmental awareness and foster in them a respect and love for the ocean through art.” One of Hilton’s goals for Pai’olu’s children was to inspire the “painter” in each of the children as they watched the process, participated in the day, and as especially as they received art supplies to paint their own creations that we hope to include in an art exhibition sometime in the near future. It was an awe-inspiring day for children of all ages and as Hilton stated, “The mural was just an ‘excuse’ for me to be there for them”, the children- his love for Pai’olu’s program children was evident in every brush stroke.
Sponsors that also contributed to the day were Jeff Bermoy, Jams World, Route 99 Hawaii, Vertical Technologies Hawaii, Titan Tool, Bomber Eyewear, and FireWire Surfboards Hawaii.
Mahalo Nui Loa to Hilton, his family, friends, and sponsors!
