Largest Arizona Stand Down to Date Serves Over 1700 Veterans
On February 14 and 15th, U.S.VETS participated in the largest Stand Down in Arizona to date, serving over 1700 veterans. U.S.VETS was responsible for the housing portion of the Stand Down, and attended to over 200 veterans in need of housing services.
The Stand Down also provided assistance through Veterans Court, Motor Vehicle Division, VA healthcare, Veteran Benefits, as well as services for animal care and boarding, hair cuts, acupuncture, clothing closets, employment workshops and job fairs from hundreds of community providers.
Governor Jan Brewer was at the Stand Down, accompanied by Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, to announce that Phoenix was the first city in the U.S. to end chronic homelessness amongst Veterans (click here for a recent New York Times article detailing the achievement).
