U.S.VETS proudly celebrated the launch of The Veterans Fund at our 7th Annual U.S.VETS SALUTE Gala on Tuesday, November 8th at the The Beverly Hilton. Guests came together to raise more funds than ever before to support vital direct services for homeless and at-risk veterans across the country!
This year’s gala launched The Veterans Fund campaign to raise funds and rally support for U.S.VETS’ role in developing the largest veteran housing community in America, on the West Los Angeles VA campus. Together with our partners, Century Housing and Thomas Safran & Associates, we will develop a thriving neighborhood for 1,800+ veterans and their families, with housing, supportive services and a community to support veterans on-site and across Los Angeles.
We were thrilled to kick off The Veterans Fund with the support of Premier Partner The Home Depot Foundation, and Chair Jeremy Zimmer, UTA, along with Leadership Council members Kelly Coffey, City National Bank; Los Angles Mayor Eric Garcetti; Amy Gravitt, HBO (U.S. Navy) and Heather Prill, representing The Home Depot Foundation. Also joining our Leadership Council are San Antonio Spurs legend David Robinson, Admiral Capital Group (U.S. Navy), NBCUniversal’s Ron Meyer (USMC) and Shannon Gerber, The Home Depot Foundation.
The event highlighted generations of commitment to veterans, with many Hollywood celebrities bringing their parents with them to celebrate U.S.VETS’ work! Tony Hale (VEEP, Arrested Development) opened the evening by speaking of his experience growing up with a father in the service. Cindy McCain spoke of her experience with Senator John McCain, visiting veterans at U.S.VETS-Prescott in Arizona, and of their son Jim, who is also a veteran and works closely with U.S.VETS-Phoenix. Mrs. McCain introduced a special video tribute to our veterans, produced by Kirk Saduski of Playtone Pictures. Ethan Peck (Star Trek: Discovery) introduced his father, Steve Peck, President & CEO of U.S.VETS, who talked about the importance of the West LA VA project for our veterans and the collective commitment needed to make it a reality. Tia Mowry (Family Reunion) and her father Timothy, an Air Force Veteran, introduced Kinjia Ross, our client speaker for the night. Ross spoke of the struggles of being a single mother of twins that was sent out to serve after 9/11. Wilmer Valderrama (NCIS) spoke of his long-time support of our troops, and the importance of supporting them when they come home. Our dedicated Board Chair, Joe Czyzyk, gave our audience a sneak peek into the vision for the new veteran housing development at the West LA VA. And to close our night, Jay Ellis (Insecure, Top Gun) who attended the event with his father, a Navy veteran, introduced The Veterans Fund Leadership Council to those in attendance!
On behalf of U.S.VETS Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and most of all the veterans we serve, we would like to extend special thanks to our Board of Directors, sponsors, supporters, elected leadership and special guests – to those partnering with us on The Veterans Fund and those who support our work all year long. Your generosity impacts the lives of tens of thousands of veterans. We salute you.
