Stand UP at U.S.VETS – Phoenix

 In Phoenix

photoOn Saturday September 28th, U.S.VETS-Phoenix participated in the first annual “Stand Up” event for veterans sponsored by the Mayor Jerry Weiers of Glendale, Arizona. The event was put together to provide many services typically seen at Stand Downs nationwide, however this event was for all veterans, not just those experiencing homelessness, or at risk of becoming homelessness.

Employers at the event hired over 30 veterans. The Stand Up also featured resource booths, Veterans Administration staff, as well as many organizations that support veterans such as the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. Lunch was served and live entertainment proceeded throughout the day. There was even face painting for the children. The event was a great success!

Many thanks to Justin Henry with the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and U.S.VETS-Phoenix Advisory Board member Scott Hadley for the critical planning that went into making this event successful.
