There Are 8,000 Homeless Veterans on the Streets of Los Angeles

In In the News, National, Veterans Issues

Steve Peck, President and CEO of U.S.VETS, went on KABC’s Newsmakers to talk about the issue of veteran homelessness in LA.

Los Angeles, where U.S.VETS is headquartered, has a large population of homeless veterans. The overwhelming number of veterans sleeping on the streets complicates the issue of how to care for them. Simply providing shelter is a quick and easy solution, but one that doesn’t address the deeper causes of homelessness and therefore doesn’t solve the problem. “There’s a fight in America now,” Peck says. “Do we simply house [homeless veterans], or do we rehabilitate them? We’re on the rehabilitation side.”
